For over 45 years, Muslim Community School and Alim Academy has been a cornerstone of Islamic education in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Alim Academy / Muslim Community School is a private, non-profit, non-sectarian Islamic educational institution serving students from 6 weeks through 12th grade in Potomac, Maryland. We are committed to producing well-educated, moral, confident, and innovative global citizens.
Our curriculum follows Maryland State and Common Core standards, fully aligned with Montgomery County, while weaving Islamic studies, Arabic, and Quran into every level of our students’ education.
Four Decades of Growth
Founded as Muslim Community School
Established to serve the growing Muslim families of Montgomery County, Maryland.
Incorporated as a Non-Profit
Formally incorporated in Montgomery County with 501(c)(3) status effective July 1986.
Maryland State Approval — First in the DMV
Received MD State Certificate of Approval for K–8, becoming the first full-time Muslim school in the DMV with state approval.
State Tax Exemption Granted
Awarded Maryland State Sales and Use Tax Exemption, recognizing our non-profit educational mission.
First High School Graduation
Our inaugural senior class graduated, prepared for college and beyond.
Cognia Accreditation Awarded
Alim Academy, Inc. was officially awarded Cognia accreditation on June 17, 2022, recognized by NCA CASI, NWAC, and SACS CASI — joining a global network of over 36,000 accredited institutions in 85 countries.
