Celebrating 45 Years of Excellence at MCS

Alhamdulillah — this fall, Muslim Community School and Alim Academy marked a remarkable milestone: 45 years of faith-based education in the heart of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. What began as a small community school in 1980 has grown into a thriving institution that has shaped the lives of thousands of students, families, and educators across generations.

The celebration brought together former principals, alumni spanning decades, longtime teachers, parents, and current families — all gathering to reflect on what MCS has meant to them and to the broader Muslim community. The event was a powerful reminder of why we do this work, and how far we have come together.

A Legacy Built on Faith and Service

MCS was established in 1984, incorporated in 1985, and received state approval in 1989 — each step representing the tireless dedication of community members who believed that Muslim families deserved an excellent Islamic school close to home. That vision became reality, and in 2006 MCS proudly graduated its first senior class, a landmark moment that underscored the school’s commitment to educating students from Daycare all the way through 12th grade.

Today, MCS is a Cognia-accredited institution serving students from Early Childhood through High School, with a curriculum that weaves together academic rigor and Islamic values at every level.

Honoring Our Pioneers

One of the most moving aspects of the 45th anniversary was the opportunity to honor those who have been with us from the very beginning. We are especially blessed to still have Br. Salahuddeen among our dedicated teaching staff — a living connection to the founding vision of the school. His steadfast service over the decades is a testament to the love, commitment, and sacrifice that have made MCS what it is today.

As we look ahead to the next 45 years, we carry forward that same spirit: rooted in faith, growing in knowledge, and serving our community with excellence. Jazakum Allahu khairan to every family, donor, teacher, and alumnus who has been part of this journey.
