Middle & High School Highlights: Dual Enrollment, PSATs & College Planning
Our middle and high school programs are off to an exceptional start this year, with new academic opportunities and standout student achievements already making an impact. Here is a look at some of the highlights from the first quarter.
Dual Enrollment & Outside Coursework
This year, MCS introduced a dual enrollment program giving students the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. All 11th graders are currently enrolled in at least one class at Montgomery College, or are taking an additional online elective through an outside provider of their choosing — allowing students to explore their academic interests, get a head start on college coursework, and align their high school experience with their post-graduation goals.
This initiative reflects our commitment to offering greater choice and rigor for our upper school students, preparing them not just for college admissions, but for the demands of college academics themselves.
PSATs, SATs & a Remarkable Score
9th and 11th graders sat for the PSAT this October, and 10th and 11th graders will be taking the SAT in the spring. These assessments are valuable benchmarks — not only for college admissions preparation, but for helping students identify areas of strength and growth early in their high school journey.
We are especially proud to congratulate Zach Hakky, our 11th grader, who earned an outstanding 1520 on the SAT — placing him in the 98th percentile nationally. Masha’Allah, Zach! This achievement is a reflection of his hard work, dedication, and the strong academic foundation he has built here at MCS. We could not be more proud.
College & Career Webinar Series
In September, high school families were invited to the first installment of our new College & Career Webinar Series. The inaugural session, “Beyond the GPA,” was led by Sr. Sabera and focused on the full picture of college readiness — from extracurriculars and personal essays to long-term career exploration.
More webinars and parent meetings are planned throughout the year. A special middle school webinar is coming up in November, so families of 6th–8th graders should keep an eye out for that invitation. We also want to remind families to be on the lookout for Carson Scholarship nominations — a wonderful opportunity for deserving students to be recognized for academic excellence and community service.
